Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney said that while he might not be the best person to ask, his inclination would be not to try to make former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton “the woman of the people” on the presidential campaign trail.
“That’s not who she is,” he said. “Out there with the Scooby van - it just doesn’t look right and she just doesn’t connect in a way that I think her people would like her to connect, and so - do what she does best and run a, if you will, a Rose Garden type of strategy I think would make a lot more sense for Secretary Clinton.”
Mr. Romney, who Democrats skewered as an out-of-touch plutocrat during the 2012 race, also said that with the questions over Mrs. Clinton’s e-mail server and donations from foreign countries to the Clinton Foundation while she was secretary of state, there is a growing “trust gap” between her and the American people.
“And that’s not narrowing - it’s getting worse and worse,” he said.
