Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price uttered the F-word 77 times on Monday in an expletive-filled tirade against media reporters and their need to know everything about his team.
Price specifically took issue with accurate reports by the Cincinnati Enquirer that all-star catcher Devin Mesoraco was not with the team for Sunday’s game in St. Louis.
Prior to the Reds’ 6-1 win Monday night in Milwaukee, Price went on a nearly six-minute, profanity-laden rant in his daily session with reporters, the Enquirer reported. The newspaper found 77 uses of the “F” word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces.
“I don’t think you guys need to know everything. And I certainly don’t think you need to see something and tweet it out there and make it a [expletive] world event. How the [expletive] do we benefit from them knowing we don’t have Devin Mesoraco?” Price asked, according to a transcript, provided in full by the Enquirer.
“Your job is not to sniff out every [expletive] thing is about the Reds and [expletive] put it out there for every other [expletive] guy to hear,” he said.
Price apologized for the outburst in two consecutive tweets Tuesday morning.
“Bryan Price — ’In my pre-game conversation with reporters yesterday, I used wholly inappropriate language to describe the media coverage of our team,” he said in a statement via the Reds’ official Twitter account. “While I stand by the content of my message, I am sorry for the choice of words.”
