Former Florida Gov. and possible 2016 GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush will be the keynote speaker at Liberty University’s commencement ceremony on May 9, the university said Wednesday.

“Liberty University is honored to welcome Governor Jeb Bush to campus for our 42nd Commencement exercises,” said Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr. “Throughout his years of public service, Governor Bush has been a champion for excellence in education and so many other issues of vital importance to our university community.”

Mr. Bush, a converted Catholic, will be speaking in Lynchburg, Virginia, at the university founded by the late Jerry Falwell Sr., the televangelist who organized the Moral Majority that helped fuel Ronald Reagan’s win in the 1980 presidential election.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who has a strong following among evangelical Christians, chose the university as the site to launch his 2016 presidential campaign last month.

Former President George H.W. Bush, Jeb Bush’s father, addressed graduates in May 1990.
