SPOKANE, Wash. — The stray dog was clubbed in the head and buried in a field near Moses Lake about a month ago.
Four days later, the dog showed up hobbling, dirt-covered and emaciated at a nearby farm.
Now the dog that defied death is recovering with the help of Washington State University veterinarians.
The 1-year-old bully breed mix used to roam the streets of Moses Lake, accepting scraps of food from people. She was struck by a car about a month ago.
Sara Mellado has taken the dog into her home and named her Theia. She believes the person who clubbed the dog meant to put her out of her misery.
Mellado is now trying to raise $3,000 through crowdfunding to pay for additional care for Theia at WSU in Pullman, Washington.
