A U.S. air marshal was attacked by a man who jabbed him with a syringe filled with an “unknown substance” at the Lagos, Nigeria, airport, federal investigators said.

The air marshal was transported back to the United States for medical treatment, but insisted he “felt fine” during the flight, CNN reported.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted an on-scene screening of the victim when United Flight 143 landed in Houston early Monday morning,” an FBI statement read, CNN reported.

“The victim did not exhibit any signs of illness during the flight and was transported to a hospital upon landing for further testing,” the FBI continued. “None of the testing conducted has indicated a danger to other passengers.”

Fox News reported that the air marshal was “given precautionary medication,” without elaborating. It’s not clear if the FBI has a suspect.

Investigators are trying to determine if the air marshal was targeted because of his American heritage.

The syringe was also flown back to the United States for testing.
