Penn State has been ruled eligible for a bowl game following this season, as the NCAA on Monday announced it had cut short the Nittany Lions’ postseason ban and scholarship reductions.

The NCAA originally levied those penalties in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual assault scandal. The NCAA cited the school’s “significant progress toward ensuring its athletics department functions with integrity” as the reason for dropping the sanctions that were supposed to last through the 2015-16 school year.

“Penn State has made remarkable progress over the past year,” Harris Pastides, Board member and University of South Carolina president, said in a statement. “The board members and I believe the Executive Committee’s decision is the right one. It allows both the university and the association to continue to move toward a common goal of ensuring that educating, nurturing and protecting young people is a top priority.”
