WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx is planning a trip to T.F. Green Airport in Warwick to celebrate the runway expansion and other improvements being made at the airport, and to visit the Port of Davisville.

Foxx will be joined on Monday by Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Huerta, Sen. Jack Reed, Gov. Lincoln Chafee, members of the Congressional delegation and others for an event along the runway. The runway is being lengthened to allow for larger, heavier planes, which will allow for flights to more distant destinations.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the airport will offer its first direct flights to Europe, with service to Germany starting in June.

Foxx and Reed will meet at the Port of Davisville with transportation officials and maritime business leaders.
