Republican congressman Tom Cotton leads Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor by 2 points in a closely watched battle in Arkansas that could determine which party controls the Senate, according to a CNN poll of likely voters.

Voters preferred Mr. Cotton over Mr. Pryor, 49 percent to 47 percent, in a poll with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points, underscoring how close the race is down the stretch to November.

CNN found that 71 percent of voters have settled on a candidate, while 24 percent might still change their minds.

Republicans are trying to gain six Senate seats this year to retake the majority. To do this, they are painting vulnerable incumbent Democrats as too closely aligned with President Obama, whose poll numbers have taken a dive in recent months.

According to the CNN poll, 63 percent of likely Arkansas voters disapprove of Mr. Obama’s job performance, while roughly a third approve.
