U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said Thursday that eradicating the Islamic State is a worthwhile goal, but it will be a “generational struggle” that requires a collaborative efforts among allies.
“Destroyed, squeezed out of existence, is how I would put it,” he told CNN.
Mr. Cameron told CNN he would “not rule anything out” in trying to extinguish the threat. But for now, his nation is doing what it can to tamp down the threat.
He said his country is “working exhaustively” to identify any British people who are aiding the Islamic State, including the man responsible for beheading two American reporters who, judging on video evidence, appears to be from the U.K.
Mr. Cameron told CNN his country is taking away passports and prosecuting who commit or support terrorist acts.
“They will face justice one way or the other,” he said.
