DENVER (AP) - Transportation officials say ice and snow drifts that accumulated overnight Monday forced them to close Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1v2DIeJ ) the iconic road was closed Tuesday at Many Parks Curve and the Colorado River Trailhead because of two- to three-foot drifts.

The road is billed as the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching 12,183 feet above sea level. It remained closed Tuesday night.

Rocky Mountain National Park is about 60 miles northwest of Denver.
