The political action committee of the Sierra Club environmental group kicked in $1 million for a last-minute ad campaign to defeat Republican Joni Ernst in the Iowa Senate race.

The television spot, reported by The Hill, hones in on what her Democratic foe, Rep. Bruce Braley, and his supporters are pushing as her negatives: that she wants to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency and privatize Social Security.

The ad also takes Ms. Ernst to task for the funding she has received from Charles and David Koch, the wealthy businessman brothers who have spent tens of millions of dollars to back conservative causes.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” a woman says in the ad. “Almost $3 million in ads for Joni Ernst, backed by two billionaires who don’t even live in Iowa. She’s fighting for their agenda.

“They’re buying a lot of ads,” the woman says. “But they can’t buy our votes.”

The latest ad buy comes on the heels of another $1 million campaign launched in June by the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters and the Environmental Defense Action Fund to attack Ms. Ernst’s campaign, The Hill reported.
