In front of a shocked and silent studio audience, Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg traded angry barbs during a commercial break on the set of “The View.”
The verbal altercation began when Ms. O’Donnell — who reportedly refuses to wear an earpiece on the set, and is out of the loop on producer countdowns and communications — took umbrage at Ms. Goldberg’s interruption to go to commercial break, according to the New York Daily News.
Ms. O’Donnell was speaking and didn’t know it was time to cut to break, so Ms. Goldberg jumped in to announce the commercial. When the cameras stopped rolling, Ms. O’Donnell then express her anger at the disruption, telling Ms. Goldberg: “You hurt my feelings,” the Daily News reported.
Ms. Goldberg then tried twice to calm Ms. O’Donnell. But Ms. O’Donnell refused to drop the matter, complaining, “It makes me upset and I just don’t want to have to go through this.”
Ms. Goldberg finally shot back, “[Expletive] it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don’t want to listen. If you want to go there, Rosie, I will … I’m really sick of your [expletive],” the Daily News reported.
Production people told the newspaper that the studio audience fell into shocked silence. But a representative for “The View” downplayed the incident.
“They had a misunderstanding and an exchange,” representative Lauri Hogan said, the Daily News reported. “They talked it out and they were back to business as usual.”
Ms. O’Donnell ended her first stint as a co-host of “The View” in 2007 after engaging in an argument with former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck and storming off the set. She currently has a one-year deal that wraps next summer.
