Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney is scheduled to appear at a fundraiser Tuesday evening in McLean, Virginia, for Del. Barbara Comstock, who is running to replace retiring GOP Rep. Frank Wolf as the representative for the state’s 10th congressional district.

Mrs. Comstock served as the Virginia campaign co-chair in 2012 for Mr. Romney, who has emerged as a popular figure on the Republican fundraising circuit this cycle.

She is locked in a tight race with Fairfax County supervisor John Foust to replace Mr. Wolf in the 10th district, which stretches from the Washington, D.C., suburbs north and west into the Shenandoah Valley.

Political operatives on both sides are heavily targeting the race, which figures to be one of the most closely-watched — and expensive — House contests this cycle.
