Police in Sweden say they’ve busted a couple of men from Lithuania who were trying to sneak more than 25,000 diapers from Norway to eastern Europe to sell on the black market.
The men’s names weren’t released. But they were apprehended by police in Jamtland, in possession of 25,175 disposable diapers, United Press International reported.
Police say the diapers sell for less than $1 each in Norway, but can earn considerably higher sums on the black market in eastern Europe, UPI reported. Normally, those who cross the border have to disclose the contents they’re carting — but these men failed to do so, said Stefan Fredriksson, with the Jamtland police, UPI reported.
“They did not report that they were transporting the goods across the border from Norway to Sweden,” Mr. Fredriksson said, in the news outlet. “You are accountable to report it to customs and pay the duty fee.”
Mr. Fredriksson also said police spent an entire night counting the diapers.
