Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz used violent imagery Wednesday to describe Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s record, accusing the Republican of giving women “the back of his hand.”
“Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand,” the Florida congresswoman said during a discussion on women’s issues at the Milwaukee Athletic Club, the Journal Sentinel reported. “I know that is stark. I know that is direct. I know that is reality.
“What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch,” she said.
Mrs. Wasserman Schultz, joined by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, attacked Mr. Walker’s opposition to increasing the minimum wage and criticized the governor for signing a bill in 2012 that would prevent people subjected to employment discrimination from seeking punitive and compensatory damages in state court, the Journal Sentinel reported.
Mrs. Wasserman Schultz’s metaphor caught the attention of conservative Twitter users, who blasted the Democrat for being “seriously deranged” and committing “actual malice.”
“The [expletive] *Chair* of the DNC just accused a sitting Governor of physical abuse of women. Guess how much media attention it will get?” tweeted John Ekdahl, Twitchy reported.
“Women who have felt the back of a hand: Shut up, Debbie,” wrote
Lisa De Pasquale.
“Thought Experiment: The media reaction if [Republican National Committee chair Reince Preibus] said this instead of [Wasserman Schultz],” wrote RBPundit.
