CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Gov. Maggie Hassan and U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen emphasized energy efficiency while their Republican challengers focused on domestic energy production at the annual New Hampshire Energy Summit in Concord.
Walt Havenstein, the Republican nominee for governor, criticized Hassan’s administration for devoting little of its recent 10-year energy plan to natural gas. He said Monday that his top priority would be reducing energy prices but didn’t offer specific solutions. Republican Scott Brown, Shaheen’s opponent, said domestic energy production is a key to lowering energy costs and criticized Shaheen for opposing the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Hassan outlined a multipronged approach starting with energy efficiency, while Shaheen described legislation she sponsored to promote the same.
The summit was organized by the Dupont Group and the New Hampshire Independent Energy Council.
