Sen. John McCain didn’t come out and say he would vote for Sen. Rand Paul for the Republican nominee for president in 2016 — but he did say that if the Kentuckian won the ticket, he was support him.

The Arizona senator also had nothing but praise for his Kentucky colleague in a recent interview with The New Yorker.

“I’ve seen him grow and I’ve seen him mature and I’ve seen him become more centrist,” Mr. McCain said, in The New Yorker. “I know that if he were president or a nominee, I could influence him, particularly some of his views and positions on national security. He trusts me particularly on the military side of things, so I could easily work with him. It wouldn’t be a problem.”

The admission is somewhat of a surprise, given Mr. McCain’s previous characterization of Mr. Paul, as well as Sen. Ted Cruz, as “wacko birds” on foreign policy. Mr. McCain and Mr. Paul have also disputed over the best way to root out Islamic State terrorists.
