Republicans and Democrats alike may have experienced a massive head-scratching moment — though with different accompanying emotions — after reading a New York Times tweet about Eric Holder’s resignation that mistakenly called it an “Obama resignation.”

The full tweet, from NYT First Draft: “Live video: Watch Obama resignation press conference here,” various media reported.

It was only a matter of minutes before the jokes started swirling on social media.

“Well, the name says it all — just a first draft,” wrote one,

“And 50% of the country goes wild!!” wrote another

And a third: “Oy, Freudian tweeting by a by-now-reprimanded social media manager??”

One more: “Wishful thinking…..” Followed quickly by a similar one: “Thought it was Christmas in September for a second.”

And a good summary: “Good lord, people.”

The New York Times sent out a corrected tweet shortly after — but even that one contained a slightly confusing message, complete with grammatical mistake.

“Correction: Live video: Watch Obama announces Attorney General resignation press conference here,” NYT First Draft wrote.
