Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his rival, Allison Lundergan Grimes, in the U.S. Senate race are at odds over pot.

Mr. McConnell, a Republican, says that Kentucky should not follow in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington by loosening the legal restrictions on marijuana.

Meanwhile, Mr. Grimes, a Democrat, says she is open to the idea.

“I would want to have the discussion, and I think it’s worthwhile to bring the experts together and talk about the reclassification, especially for medical purposes,” Mrs. Grimes said in during an appearance Kentucky Sports Radio, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

The newspaper reported that a spokesperson for the McConnell campaign said, “Senator McConnell is strongly opposed to legalization of marijuana as Kentucky families deserve no less.”

Mr. McConnell leads Mrs. Grimes by 5 percentage points in the latest Real Clear Politics average of polls.
