The Friday proceedings for the 2014 Values Voter Summit, one of the premier gatherings for social conservatives in the country, kicked off with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins sending out a call to attendees.

“We will never, never surrender to the forces of statism and political correctness,” he said.

Mr. Perkins’ welcoming remarks at the ninth annual event, which is being held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in northwest Washington, D.C., kicked off a packed weekend schedule that is scheduled to feature prominent conservative figures ranging from potential 2016 presidential contenders to radio hosts like Mark Levin and Glenn Beck.

Mr. Perkins said he hears almost every day that conservatives are on the wrong side of history and want to turn back the clock.

“We stand for what the clock cannot measure — for that which is timeless and eternal,” Mr. Perkins said.

Among those scheduled to speak at the gathering are Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

The event also features a presidential straw poll, which Mr. Cruz won last year.

The primary sponsor of the event is FRC Action, the legislative affiliate arm of the Family Research Council.
