Though Chris Baker avoided being disciplined by the league for his hit on Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles on Sunday, he was not able to dodge punishment altogether.
The league announced Friday that the Washington Redskins’ nose tackle was fined $8,268 for grabbing Eagles left tackle Jason Peters by the facemask in the scuffle that took place following the hit.
Peters, meanwhile, was fined $10,000 by the league “for unnecessarily striking an opponent in the head area after the play was over.”
No other players were fined by the league for their actions in the scuffle, which erupted on the Redskins’ sideline following Baker’s hit on Foles.
Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland had appeared to intercept a pass early in the fourth quarter, and Baker leveled Foles from behind with a stiff block. Baker has maintained that he did not intentionally try to strike the quarterback and that he merely saw a player heading in Breeland’s direction wearing a white jersey.
Peters objected to Baker’s hit, chasing him down near the Redskins’ sideline, where the play ended, and shoving him in the upper chest. That led to many players taking part in a brawl that eventually led to the ejection of both Baker and Peters from the game.
The only other fine levied from a play in that game Sunday was against Redskins strong safety Akeem Davis, who was penalized for grabbing the facemask of Eagles running back Darren Sproles as he attempted to return a punt early in the third quarter.
Davis, who was also docked $8,268, was originally called for a horse-collar tackle before a review of the penalty mid-week changed it to a facemask penalty.
