PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse says he has “no interest” in any job other than the Senate.
The Democratic senator’s name is among those being mentioned to replace U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
The White House said President Barack Obama would announce Holder’s departure on Thursday.
White House officials tell The Associated Press that Whitehouse has been discussed as a possible replacement.
Whitehouse says it would be a great honor to be considered, but that his “heart’s desire is representing Rhode Island in the Senate.” He says he has no interest in other positions.
Whitehouse is a former state attorney general and U.S. attorney and sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He was first elected to the Senate in 2006.
