Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said Thursday that the problems in the world today are made for the U.N. since they can’t be tackled alone.

She talked specifically about how President Obama is trying to get more countries to join a coalition to fight the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, in Syria.

“The horrors of ISIL should unite all those countries,” she said on MSNBC. “The test of this moment is whether that threat is a uniter.”

Ms. Power said she believes France and Germany will “get there” to support the coalition in Syria, and also said Turkey is beginning to talk about what the requirements would be to join and help defeat the terrorist group.

She said a “dramatic moment” during the president’s address to the U.N. Wednesday came when he was able to pay his respects to French President Francois Hollande immediately after a French hostage was beheaded by the terrorist group. Ms. Power said Mr. Hollande’s reaction suggested France would be onboard, despite the fact that the Islamic State blamed the beheading on France’s strikes over Iraq.

“What you heard was far from cowing in the face of what ISIL had said,” she said. “President Hollande said we will not be deterred, this just shows why we have to defeat ISIL.”
