Sarah Palin stumped for GOP Sen. Pat Roberts in Kansas Thursday morning, calling him a true conservative and hoping to give him an edge over an independent challenger.

“He is a conservative and he is what America needs,” the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential nominee said.

Mr. Roberts is facing independent Greg Orman in what unexpectedly became a tight race when the Democratic nominee dropped off the ballot. A Real Clear Politics average puts Mr. Orman about 1 point ahead.

In her remarks, Mrs. Palin also touted Mr. Orman’s liberal record, like supporting Obamacare and supporting Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat.

“That’s not independent. That’s someone who’s trying to snooker you, Kansas,” he said.

MSNBC, which aired pieces of Mrs. Palin’s remarks, also said that Mr. Roberts is bringing in Bob Dole and Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, to help him campaign and win re-election. Kansas.com also reported that possible 2016 contender Jeb Bush is supposed to be in Witchita with Mr. Roberts next week.
