LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Just over 400,000 low-income adults in Michigan have signed up for Healthy Michigan, the state’s Medicaid expansion program.
The figure released Thursday is well above the pace initially projected by Gov. Rick Snyder’s administration. It had expected roughly 323,000 enrollees for the entire year.
Snyder says the 400,000 milestone “means that we are well on track for improving the quality of life for our residents.”
Adults making up to 133 percent of the poverty line are eligible for the government health coverage program under a law the Republican governor signed in 2013.
The state expects enrollment to eventually reach 477,000.
