COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is visiting a central Ohio mosque to discuss efforts to combat violent extremism.
The agency says Secretary Jeh (jay) Johnson will meet Wednesday with community leaders and local and state law enforcement to discuss an ongoing collaboration with the department.
The visit to the Noor Cultural Islamic Center in suburban Columbus comes as the U.S. has begun conducting air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria.
The government has warned about the possibility of homegrown violent extremists launching attacks out of frustration at the airstrikes.
