New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is headed back to Iowa.

The Des Moines Register reported Tuesday that Mr. Christie will headline Gov. Terry Branstad’s 68th birthday bash on Oct. 25, less than two weeks before the Nov. 4 election, where Mr. Branstad is seeking a sixth term.

The visit comes on the heels of a recent report form NBC 4 New York that said “thus far” the Justice Department’s nine-month probe into the “bridgegate” scandal has not unearthed any evidence showing that Mr. Christie knew or orchestrated the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

Mr. Christie is thought to be laying the groundwork for a presidential run.
He visited Iowa in July and made several stops in New Hampshire.
The latest Real Clear Politics average of polls has Mr. Christie leading the field of likely contenders for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

He is followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the party’s 2008 candidate for vice president.
