The State Department is launching a mobile app for the Model United Nations, a popular program for students that lets them assume the roles of country representatives and work out problems like in the real multinational body.
The app will come loaded with background information on some nations to help students, dates of conferences for Model U.N. and lesson plans to help teachers. Officials hope the app will “engage youth in the important work that multilateral organizations do,” even if they don’t have any previous knowledge of the U.N.
The app comes with lesson plans on real-world issues such as poverty eradication, climate change and globalization. And there’s even what officials called a “tongue-in-cheek simulation” about fighting a zombie apocalypse, to show how multiple nations can work together to address world crises.
