TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau will help fund marketing of events designed to attract visitors to northeast Mississippi.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1u2JSei ) the matching-grant program is designed for special events and festivals.

Requests for funding must be submitted by Oct. 8.

Events must be scheduled between Oct. 1, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2015. Event promoters can receive up to $15,000 from the bureau.

Promoters also must put up a match of at least 30 percent of the requested funding.

The bureau says events will be scored on commitment to tourism in Tupelo, regional promotion value, soundness of the proposed project, stability and management capacity and the general quality of the proposed project.
