RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory says his administration’s new transportation infrastructure plan will ensure people and commerce are well-connected for the next generation as North Carolina’s population keeps growing.
McCrory and state Transportation Secretary Tony Tata unveiled Wednesday what’s called the governor’s “25-Year Vision.” The pair planned four stops to discuss it.
The plan breaks North Carolina into four regions and sets out overarching transportation goals for each. Tata says these and statewide demands should provide the standards on which funding decisions are based.
The Republican governor has wanted such a blueprint since being elected.
McCrory also announced he wants legislators to borrow $1 billion to pay for some permit-ready projects. Tata says it would not require voter approval and would be paid with anticipated road-building revenues.
