GENEVA — Bayern Munich scored a 90th-minute goal to beat Manchester City 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Barcelona had an easier time edging APOEL 1-0.

Bayern defender Jerome Boateng’s powerful shot appeared to deflect off teammate Mario Goetze and go beyond City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who had denied the 2013 champion with a series of saves.

Barcelona scored its goal in the 28th minute, when defender Gerard Pique headed in Lionel Messi’s free kick.

Chelsea was held 1-1 at home by Schalke after Cesc Fabregas’s 11th-minute opener for the hosts.

On a bad night for eastern European champions, Roma routed CSKA Moscow 5-1 and Porto crushed BATE Borisov 6-0.

Elsewhere, it was Ajax 1, Paris Saint-Germain 1; Maribor 1, Sporting Lisbon 1; and Athletic Bilbao 0, Shakhtar Donetsk 0.
