Joan Rivers had agreed to do a special comedy project with Jerry Seinfeld, just nine days before she went in for a fateful surgical procedure that ultimately lead to her death.
Mr. Seinfeld shared a screenshot of text messages that confirmed Ms. Rivers had agreed to appear in his popular web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
“I just came across this heartbreaking text on my phone from August 19th,” the comedian wrote in a Facebook post Monday. “I had asked Joan Rivers to be our lead guest on the new season of Comedians in Cars, and she was thrilled. Then we got a call saying she was going in for a medical procedure and needed to postpone.”
Ms. Rivers went into cardiac arrest during her procedure on Aug. 28 and died the next week on Sept. 4 at age 81.
“I would have loved to have shown another side of her,” Mr. Seinfeld continued. “I wanted to tell her how much I admire all she had accomplished, especially in the latter stages of her career. She was one of the greats. I’ll miss her.”
