The Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman had five at-bats and played three innings in the Instructional League Tuesday in Viera, Fla. According to manager Matt Williams, Zimmerman came out of the game feeling great.
Williams said Zimmerman doubled twice, which allowed him to test his injured hamstring while running the bases. Zimmerman played all three innings at first base.
Zimmerman will be back in the field Wednesday. He’s scheduled to play three innings at third base and two at first. After that, he’ll take a day off from the field and be the designated hitter. The Nationals expect to follow that with Zimmerman playing seven then nine innings in the field.
Zimmerman has not played since tearing his right hamstring in Colorado on July 22.
