Incumbent Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is tied with GOP challenger Scott Brown in a new poll from CNN on the hotly contested New Hampshire race.
Forty-eight percent of likely voters say they would vote for Ms. Shaheen if the election were held today and 48 percent opt for Mr. Brown.
Fifty-four percent hold a favorable view of Ms. Shaheen compared to 46 percent for Mr. Brown, but the poll suggests President Obama could be dragging her down a bit. Mr. Obama has a 38 percent approval rating in the Granite State, with 60 percent disapproving in the poll taken from Sept. 8-11.
Mr. Brown, who used to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate, has been working to edge New Hampshire into the top tier of competitive states the GOP is targeting to net the six seats they need to re-take control of the chamber.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) highlighted a separate poll Monday taken from Sept. 9-11 by Kiley & Company that showed Ms. Shaheen with an 8-point lead in the race, 51 percent to 43 percent. RealClearPolitics shows her with about a 5-point advantage in an average of recent public polling on the contest.
