President Obama on Monday will announce additional U.S. efforts to fight the Ebola outbreak that has gripped parts of Africa, the White House said Monday.
Mr. Obama on Tuesday will travel to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters in Atlanta and receive a briefing on the outbreak, which has claimed more than 2,400 lives in Sierra Leone, Liberia and other African nations, according to World Health Organization estimates.
The U.S. already has committed more than $100 million to the response effort and that figure soon will grow.
“The president is looking forward to the briefing he’ll receive tomorrow, and I would anticipate the announcement of additional efforts,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.
The president already has requested an additional $88 million to boost the American response.
