Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III left Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a dislocated left ankle and will undergo further tests in the next few days.
Griffin, the team’s first-round pick in the 2012, sustained the injury midway through the first quarter. On second-and-4 from Jacksonville’s 39-yard line, he scrambled to his right and evaded Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny before appearing to roll his left ankle.
Coach Jay Gruden said following the game Griffin will have an MRI on Monday and the team should have more information about his status after that exam.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner stuck with the play and heaved a 19-yard pass to DeSean Jackson with his left leg in the air. He kept the leg elevated as he fell to the ground.
Griffin remained on the ground for an extended period of time, surrounded by Redskins players and doctors on the team’s sideline. He left the field on the back of a cart a few minutes later and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd.
The team later announced he would miss the remainder of the game.

Kirk Cousins entered the game in Griffin’s absence and finished the drive, which resulted in a touchdown pass to fullback Darrell Young.
Griffin tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in the third game of his sophomore season at Baylor. He ruptured the ligament again as a rookie with the Redskins in 2012.
