Two U.S. Navy fighter jets crashed into ocean waters while carrying out a mission in the Pacific, Navy officials said Friday.
Two F/A-18 Hornets were operating on the USS Carl Vinson carrier when they crashed, the Navy said.
One of the pilots was rescued and treated on the carrier.
Navy officials are still searching for the second pilot using several helicopters, as well as the guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill and the guided-missile destroyer USS Gridley.
The jets haven’t been recovered and the cause of the crash is being investigated.
The two jets involved were a Strike Fighter Squadron 94 and a Strike Fighter Squadron 113, the Navy said.
