Defensive end Jarvis Jenkins and cornerback Bashaud Breeland were each fined $16,537 for penalties they committed in the Washington Redskins’ season-opening loss at Houston.
Jenkins was fined after he was called for roughing the passer on Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with 7:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. Breeland, meanwhile, was fined for a horse-collar tackle on Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson with 13:47 left in the game.
Both players said Friday that they plan to appeal. Breeland will have his hearing by telephone on Tuesday afternoon, while Jenkins said he would let his agent, Joe Flanagan, handle the details.
Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall was not fined for the league for shoving Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins back to the grass after completing a catch in the third quarter, while Texans strong safety D.J. Swearinger was not fined after his roughing-the-passer call on Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.
