Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, had to decline an invitation from anti-tax activist Grover Norquist to attend Burning Man next year, saying there’s a chance he’ll be otherwise occupied.
“Thank you kindly for the invitation, Grover. I’ll certainly consider it, but I think I might be pretty busy next summer,” Mr. Paul said, according to Fusion, feeding the speculation that he will run for president in 2016.
Mr. Norquist, the founder of Americans for Tax reform, attended the week-long festival in the Nevada desert this summer, and plans to gather a group of Republican lawmakers to go with him to next year’s event.
He hopes to bring together Republicans who have a mix of “athletic, artistic and technical skills,” calling them his “Dream Team,” according to Fusion.
The “Dream Team” will certainly need those skills to survive at Burning Man, where festival-goers spend a week in the Black Rock Desert, and participate in art and counterculture events using only the resources that they bring with them.
