Law enforcement agents are investigating the Thursday morning tossing of a Molotov cocktail into Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s district office.
Agents with the Kansas City Police and Kansas City Bomb and Arson Squad responded to the district office in the early morning hours to investigate the attempted bombing, The Hill reported. Nobody was in the office or injured, and the Molotov cocktail did not explode, local media said.
“The Congressional Black Caucus strongly condemns this type of vandalism targeted at Congressman Cleaver and denounces any act of violence towards members of Congress,” said Congressional Black Caucus Rep. Marcia Fudge in a statement reported by The Hill. “This type of abhorrent behavior is the most ineffective means of voicing discontent or disagreement.”
She called for police to find those responsible and prosecute them “to the fullest extent of the law,” The Hill reported.
Mr. Cleaver is presently at his Washington, D.C., office. His chief of staff said this is the second time an incident of this nature occurred in the last six years.
