SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — An FBI official says an attack last year on Silicon Valley’s power grid appears to have involved only one shooter.
Speaking at a conference Tuesday, John Lightfoot reiterated the bureau’s position that there is no indication the April 2013 shooting at a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. power station outside San Jose was an act of terrorism.
Lightfoot manages the FBI’s counterterrorism effort in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jon Wellinghoff, former head of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, has disagreed with the FBI and called the attack a sophisticated act of terrorism.
The shooting damaged numerous transformers and prompted officials to urge millions of people in Silicon Valley to conserve energy.
Lightfoot’s remarks were reported by the San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1tCJ53u).
