“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd took to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday and said that President Obama’s handling of U.S. foreign policy was at a dangerous tipping point for the Democratic Party.

When asked by Joe Scarborough to discuss Mr. Obama’s sagging poll numbers, the new ” Meet the Press” host said that the damage being done was not contained to only the president’s reputation.

“But it’s not just him. It’s actually impacting the entire Democratic Party. We did some issue testing between who better handles which issues, Democrats or Republicans. We took out Obama. Republicans lead by 38 points on the issue of ensuring a strong national defense. Thirty-eight. He’s on the precipice of doing Jimmy Carter-like damage to the Democratic brand on foreign policy,” Mr. Todd said.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Wednesday founds that found 47 percent of Americans believe the country is less safe now than before the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York and Washington. Mr. Obama will seek to alleviate those concerns during a 9 p.m. speech the White House Wednesday night. The president is expected to lay out his plan for taking on the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
