NEW YORK (AP) — New York labor unions and environmental groups are planning a march to draw attention to climate change two days before a United Nations summit on the issue.

City Councilman Donovan Richards predicted Wednesday that the Sept. 21 demonstration would be largest climate march in history.

Richards’ district in the Rockaways section of Queens was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. He said he fears there will be more catastrophic storms if world leaders don’t address global warming.

Donovan was joined by dozens of trade unionists and members of environmental groups like the League of Conservation Voters at a rally on the steps of City Hall.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has invited heads of state to a Sept. 23 climate change summit in New York. President Barack Obama is expected to attend.
