Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, one of the most endangered Senate Democrats, is shaking up her campaign team for the final four-week sprint to the Nov. 4 election.
Ms. Landrieu replaced campaign manager Adam Sullivan and brought in a couple veterans from her past three successful Senate runs, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
The team includes Ryan Berni, who ran the successful mayoral campaign of Ms. Landrieu’s brother Mitch Landrieu and Ms. Landrieu’s former chief of staff, Norma Jane Sabiston, who was a top adviser in the senator’s last three races.
The Landrieu campaign downplayed the late-in-the-race changes.
“As Sen. Landrieu has done in all of her races, she is bringing on some of her long-time and trusted advisers to assist during the last month of the race to lead us to victory on Nov. 4,” Landrieu campaign spokesman Fabien Levy told the Times-Picayune.
Ms. Landrieu has always faced tough elections in Republican-leaning Louisiana. But this year has been one of the most difficult due to a conservative resurgence and deep dissatisfaction with President Obama.
She has consistently trailed in the polls behind Republican challenger Rep. Bill Cassidy, who is contending with tea party-backed independent candidate Bob Maness.
Neither Ms. Landrieu or Mr. Cassidy appears likely to garner the 50 percent needed in Louisiana’s open election Nov. 4 to avoid a December run-off election. Ms. Landrieu likely would face an ever tougher contest in December.
