Warships from North Korea and South Korea each fired warning shots after a North Korean craft briefly entered waters belonging to their southern neighbor, a South Korean defense spokesman said.

The warning shots were fired into the water, not at the ships, and nobody was injured, The Associated Press reported.

Trade of fire at the sea boundary isn’t uncommon. But this most recent firing took place just a few days after a group of high-ranking North Koreans made a surprise stop in South Korea and announced they will engage in peace talks, AP said.

The South Korean defense official said the North Korean ship was in their waters for about 10 minutes before retreating. A South Korean naval ship first sent out a broadcast that it would fire — and then fired. The North Korean ship fired back and hit waters right next to the South Korean ship, AP reported.
