A group known for on-camera sting operations released another video Tuesday that takes aim at Alison Lundergan Grimes’ stance on coal as she tries to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky.
Project Veritas Action released its first installment Monday, showcasing campaign supporters and operatives who say Mrs. Grimes, a Democrat, is only pretending to support the coal industry so she can get elected.
In part two, an undercover reporter infiltrates what Veritas describes as a fundraiser for Mrs. Grimes in New York.
They can’t get Hollywood big-shot Harvey Weinstein to talk, but another man dishes at the bar. Prompted by a Veritas questioner, he says Mrs. Grimes will hurt the coal industry once she is elected.
“Come on dude. What do you think? … She can’t say it straight up,” says a man identified as Niko Elmaleh.
Veritas describes him as a real estate mogul and Grimes backer.
“She’s going to (expletive) them as soon as she gets elected,” he says. “Take my word for it.”
The Grimes campaign has not responded to the videos. Instead, they touted a Bluegrass Poll released Monday that puts Mrs. Grimes up by 2 points.
The McConnell campaign called that poll an outlier and said Monday’s video, which features Mrs. Grimes’ own field operatives, is telling.
