DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - The board of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History is asking the city to remove a Confederate flag from the grounds.
The museum plans to move the flag inside to be part of an exhibit of the history of the Confederate flag to be installed in early 2015.
The request was delivered in a letter to City Manager Joe Green, according to the Danville Register and Bee (https://bit.ly/1s0s0CT).
Danville is considered the “last capital” of the Confederacy because it was home to the full Confederate government before the armies in the field surrendered and Richmond fell.
In April, the sesquicentennial anniversary for Danville’s role as the last capital will be recognized.
