The Islamic State group is now using American armored personnel carriers as moving IEDs in Iraq.
Photos of captured M113s was released by the terror group on Thursday. The vehicles were left in Iraq when U.S. troops exited the country in December 2011, Military.com reported Thursday.
The security blog The Long War journal reported Thursday that the images were taken in Iraq’s Anbar province. The blog is a project of The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes counterterrorism education and investigative journalism.
“The pictures bear the title of Wilayat al Fallujah, which is one of the Islamic State’s proclaimed administrative districts in Iraq. The Wilayat is one of their newest districts and is one of the three that make up Iraq’s Anbar Province,” the website reported.
The images released on Twitter include of massive explosions on Iraqi positions, allegedly caused by one of the armored personnel carriers.
The Islamic State group released the images on the same day that U.S. Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that the Pentagon is looking for ways to assist tribes in Anbar with their efforts to repel the Sunni radicals.

“We’ve got a program in place where we’re beginning to restore some offensive capability and mindset to the Iraqi security forces. We need to think about how to do that with the tribes,” the general said, The Associated Press reported Thursday.
