President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama — known for her healthy eating initiative in American schools — will hand out Hershey kisses, cookies, candy and other sweets to thousands of children Friday at the White House.
More than 4,500 people will flock to the White House Friday evening, including students from D.C., Maryland and Virginia public schools. Children of military families also have been invited.
The trick-or-treat menu includes a special “White House sweet dough butter cookie,” kettle corn, jelly beans, an apple and baseball cards of the first family’s two dogs, Bo and Sunny.
Earlier in the day during an economic speech at Rhode Island College, Mr. Obama joked that he would be cutting his address short in order to return to Washington for Halloween at the White House.
“I’ve got to get back and trick-or-treat tonight with Michelle,” he said. “A good thing about being president is we never run out of presidential M&Ms. And so we’re going to be giving those out.”
The White House event also will include acrobatic performers and other entertainment, according to the White House.
