Democrat Michelle Nunn, running for U.S. Senate in Georgia, joined NBA legend and erstwhile Atlanta Hawk Dikembe Mutombo as he voted early on Thursday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Mr. Mutombo did not bring out his signature finger-wag after he cast his ballot, but did offer some words of support for Ms. Nunn, who is running against Republican David Perdue to replace retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
“I’m here with my friend Michelle Nunn, who will be our next senator,” Mr. Mutombo said outside the Georgia Hills Neighborhood Facility in Grant Park. “I’m asking all my friends and their families, those who have not voted yet, please get this thing ready before Nov. 4 when it will be too late.”
Mr. Perdue, for his part, has apparently gotten some help from the CEO of Coca-Cola, which is based in Atlanta.
If neither candidate in the neck-and-neck race can eclipse 50 percent on Nov. 4, the contest heads to a January run-off. Libertarian Amanda Swafford has been polling in the single digits in recent surveys.
